Un viaggio nella memoria e nella storia americana. Questo è Divided & United, l’album della ATO in uscita in autunno che rende omaggio alle canzoni legate alla Guerra Civile. È un progetto del produttore Randall Poster, che l’ha fortemente voluto e, affiancato dal chitarrista Bryan Sutton, ha scelto i musicisti e le canzoni da affidare loro. Si va da Steve Earle a Loretta Lynn, passando per T Bone Burnett, John Doe, Jorma Kaukonen, Dolly Parton, Chris Hillman, Vince Gill, Old Crow Medicine Show, Sam Amidon, Pokey LaFarge, Chris Thile, Stuart Duncan.
Questi pezzi, ha detto Poster, «mettono in scena speranza e perdita, cameratismo e compassione, rappresentano le voci distintive del Nord e del Sud», non ultime canzoni cantate dai soldati in guerra e brani antiabolizionisti. «È una finestra aperta sul passato. Il doppio album, di cui riportiamo la track list, esplora temi come la razza, l’identità e la riconciliazione in un modo che ha ancora un profondo impatto ai giorni nostri».
