La prima delle due compilation di Michael Stipe e soci si intitola Complete Warner Bros. Rarities 1988-2011, è uscita solo in formato digital download ed è disponibile – almeno per il momento – solo su iTunes e Amazon. Sono 131 i brani della raccolta tra pezzi dal vivo, cover, versioni strumentali, pezzi non inclusi negli album e mix alternativi tutti riferiti al periodo in cui i R.E.M. sono stati sotto contratto con la Warner.
Oltre a “Complete Warner Bros. Rarities 1988-2011”, è uscita inoltre una compilation dal titolo Complete Rarities: I.R.S. 1982-1987, all’interno della quale sono presenti 50 brani tra cover, mix differenti, live, b-side e quant’altro del periodo in cui la band incideva per la I.R.S.
E sono stati poi resi disponibili in esclusiva su iTunes tutti gli album del catalogo dei R.E.M., rimasterizzati appositamente per la piattaforma musicale di Apple.
