The Jam, edizione speciale per Setting Sons

I The Jam furono senza dubbio una delle più popolari band emerse dalla scena punk rock britannica del 1977 ed ebbero un fenomenale impatto musicale e culturale. Nella loro breve carriera, insieme a Sex Pistols, The Clash e Buzzcocks, ispirarono una generazione con la loro musica, le loro idee ed il loro stile. Influenzati musicalmente da band come The Who, Dr Feelgood e Kinks e dalla Motown Records, entrarono nella top 40 britannica dei singoli per 18 volte consecutive con ben 4 numeri uno, si crearono un seguito maniacale con tour e concerti che andavano esauriti in pochi minuti.

Pubblicato originariamente nel 1979, Setting Sons raggiunse il quarto posto delle charts U.K. e per molti fan e per la critica è l’album che definisce il classico ‘Jam sound’.

Pensato inizialmente come ‘concept’ album, con un filo diretto tra canzoni come Thick As Thieves, Wasteland e Burning Sky“, Setting Sons derivava questo concetto dai sixties e dalle band-guida di Weller: i Kinks, gli Small Faces e gli Who. L’inno pacifista “Little Boy Soldiers”, costruito in tre parti, illustra benissimo come il trio si stesse muovendo verso sonorità più sperimentali ed impegnate pur mantenendo quel suono energico e muscolare per cui erano famosi. L’album include inoltre i singoli “The Eton Rifles”, “Smithers-Jones” e la loro cover del classico di Martha And The Vandellas Heat Wave.
 
L’edizione Super Deluxe di Setting Sons contiene 3 CD e 1 DVD: nei 3 CD la genesi dell’album, i demos iniziali, i singoli Strange Town e When You’re Young che ne precedettero l’uscita, le alternate version, brani live (il concerto completo del Dicembre 1979 a Brighton nel terzo CD), b-sides ed il singolo “Going Underground”, primo del trio ad arrivare al primo posto delle classifiche britanniche.

l DVD contiene i video promozionali dei 5 singoli e immagini dal vivo alla BBC e al Top Of The Pops. Il Doppio Cd Deluxe include l’album originale rimasterizzato, i singoli e le b-sides nel primo CD;  demos, alternate version e BBC Peel sessions nel secondo CD.
