Ovviamente nell’occasione il Boss ha cantato il suo brano che è divenuto una hit mondiale proprio grazie a Patti Smith, Because The Night
Lo scorso 26 marzo si è tenuto alla Carnegie Hall di New York People Have The Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith, concerto in onore di Patti Smith al quale hanno preso parte diverse star, tra cui anche Bruce Springsteen. Il Boss si è esibito insieme a Flea dei Red Hot Chili Peppers al basso e alla resident band guidata da Tony Shanahan sulle note del brano che ha donato proprio a Patti Smith e che è diventato famoso una hit mondiale proprio grazie a lei, Because The Night:
Hanno partecipato alla serata anche Kim Gordon, Michael Stipe, Matt Berninger dei National, Sharon Van Etten, Ben Harper, Karen O, Angel Olsen, Alison Mosshart dei Kills, nonché stelle del cinema come Scarlett Johansson, Jim Jarmusch, Sean Penn e Johnny Depp, quest’ultimo ormai spesso anche nelle vesti di rockstar, che per l’occasione ha eseguito Dancing Barefoot con Flea e Alison Mossheart:
Il gran finale è stato affidato alla stessa Patti Smith, che ha eseguito prima Peaceable Kingdom, e poi, insieme a quasi tutti gli ospiti della serata, ha cantato People Have The Power:
Il live faceva parte della serie “Music Of”, ideata da Michael Dorf, fondatore di City Winery, e tutto il ricavato della serata sarà devoluto a un programma di educazione musicale per le persone meno abbienti.

Patti Smith sarà prossimamente anche in Italia: Il prossimo 7 luglio sarà di scena infatti a Venezia, a Piazza San Marco, nell’ambito della dodicesima edizione del Festival della Bellezza, mentre il 10 ottobre terrà un concerto alla ChorusLife Arena di Bergamo per una data già sold out del tour mondiale Horses 50th Anniversary, per i 50 anni del suo primo album Horses.
