Elvis Presley, pubblicata la raccolta “Sunset Boulevard”

Il 1° agosto è uscita Sunset Boulevard, una nuova raccolta di Elvis Presley distribuita da Legacy Recordings / Sony Music. Il cofanetto, disponibile in formato digitale e su 5 CD, documenta le sessioni di registrazione e le prove tenute da Presley negli studi RCA di Los Angeles negli anni Settanta.

La raccolta contiene 89 brani, oltre la metà dei quali mai pubblicati prima negli Stati Uniti. Include inoltre fotografie d’archivio, un’introduzione di Jerry Schilling (amico di lunga data di Presley) e nuove note di copertina scritte dallo storico musicale Colin Escott.

È disponibile anche un’edizione ridotta su 2 vinili, che presenta una selezione dei brani contenuti nei primi due dischi.

Tra le tracce figurano versioni alternative di Separate Ways, T-R-O-U-B-L-E e Burning Love, oltre a Always on My Mind, registrata da Presley prima che il brano diventasse noto nella versione di Willie Nelson.

I mix dei primi due CD, curati dal produttore Matt Ross-Spang, sono stati realizzati rimuovendo gli overdub originali. La prima parte del set presenta registrazioni realizzate nello Studio C della RCA, con interpretazioni di brani firmati da autori come Kris Kristofferson, Paul Williams, Billy Swan e Don McLean. La seconda parte è composta da 17 outtakes in studio.

I tre dischi finali della raccolta includono registrazioni delle prove per le residency di Las Vegas, effettuate a Los Angeles nel luglio 1970 e nell’agosto 1974, con la TCB Band. Le sessioni documentano il lavoro svolto da Presley insieme al gruppo in preparazione dei concerti, in un contesto non pubblico.
